B. Arch

The Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) is a five-year, full-time professional undergraduate degree that blends the art of design with the science of construction. It is the mandatory academic requirement to register as a licensed architect in many countries, including India, where it is regulated by the Council of Architecture (CoA).

Eligibility & Admission

To apply for a B. Arch program, candidates must meet specific academic and entrance requirements: 

• Academic Qualification: Completion of Class 12 with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks, including Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects.
• Alternative Path: A 10+3 year Diploma in any stream with Mathematics as a mandatory subject is also accepted.
• Entrance Exams: Admission is primarily based on entrance scores. Major exams include:
  • NATA: The most common national-level aptitude test.
  • JEE Main (Paper 2): For admission to NITs, SPAs, and GFTIs.
  • JEE Advanced (AAT): Required for admission to B. Arch programs at IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur. 

     

Course Syllabus & Structure

The curriculum is divided into 10 semesters, starting with foundational design and moving toward complex urban projects and professional practice. 

 

• Foundation Years (1st & 2nd): Basics of Design, Architectural Graphics, History of Architecture, Building Materials, and Structural Mechanics.
• Intermediate Years (3rd & 4th): Urban Planning, Climatology, Building Services (lighting, acoustics, plumbing), and Working Drawings.
• Final Year (5th): Mandatory professional internship (usually 4–6 months) and a final Design Thesis/Research project.
